Despite the rain and the snakes and the spiders – everyone seemed to have a blast during the Stand Together Week event at the Supa Fresh Youth Farm. Thanks to the Timbers, and their awesome fans, we were able to harvest, clean, seperate and remove all our tomato plants! A huge task that would have been tough to manage with school back in session. We also took apart the old alfalfa hay bales that had fed the tomatoes all season, and added them to the compost pile.

Thanks so much to all the volunteers, HandsOn, the Timbers and our kids that helped out! Looking forward to next year!

A big “THANK YOU!” to Whole Foods Market Bridgeport!

This summer Whole Foods awarded a Whole Kids Foundation Grant to Supa Fresh Youth Farm, they supported our booth at the Tualatin Farmers Market, sent volunteers to help us install a new garden and harvest some crops, AND celebrated with us by doing pizza out on the grill at the Farm!

It’s been such a great experience working with them, knowing that such a large community partner would care enough about our farm to truly invest in it, and the kids that work there.

THANKS Whole Foods! Let’s do pizza again soon!

Because of this dire need, we are working on creating as many oppurtunities as possible to bring in those funds this year!

Our Supa Fresh Farm Divas got to do some hands-on marketing and outreach this weekend, thanks to awesome (and delicious!) community partner, KoiFusion. The ladies made it through the day, on vitamin water and Korean BBQ, eventually bringing home the EatMobile 2012 People’s Choice Award! Way to go chicas.

We think KoiFusion’s reubens plus our farmers’ contagious smiles and work ethic make an unstoppable combination.

Global Youth Service Day was once again a huge success thanks to our dedicated volunteers from Comcast, the Youth Farmers that led their own work crews, and our amazing community partners. For the second year in a row Chipotle (on Nyberg Rd and Kruse Rd) provided burritos for all the volunteers! It was hard not to stay motivated with the promise of a delicious chicken burrito after all the hardwork. We were lucky enough to have tons of sunshine, and Al’s Garden Center hooked us up with lots of flowering plugs that our little volunteers put around all the beds (with a little help from Farmer Ericka). The farm looks like its ready for summer! Clean Water Services let us borrow their brand new hedge trimmers, and it made all the difference as volunteers attacked the blackberry hedge.

We’re grateful to Chris K. and Dean F., as well as the lovely Lydia from HandsOn Greater Portland for making this volunteer event such a fun and organized day. Without their planning and assistance, it wouldn’t have nearly been as EPIC.
