Jobs & Opportunities
Join us on the Farm!
Farm internships last 12 weeks and average 12 hours per week at $17 per hour. Youth can complete two internships with some opportunities for a third depending on funding. Because Supa Fresh is part of a workforce development program, doing a paid internship requires enrollment in YouthSource. Learn more about that here.
We work at four different garden sites around Tigard in all different weather conditions, which quickly teaches the importance of coming to work prepared! Each season on the farm requires different kinds of work.
Spring
- Seeding crops in the greenhouse
- Preparing beds with compost and natural fertilizers
- Building trellising for tomatoes
- Planting
Summer
- Harvest, wash and pack produce
- Plant and direct seed fall crops
- Make bouquets
- Provide great service to our CSA customers
Fall
- Continue to harvest
- Plant cover crop
- Cover beds in mulch
- Trim perennials
In every season we spend a lot of time maintaining each of our sites. Tasks include clearing pathways, rootballing blackberries, turning the compost, feeding worms in our vermiculture bin, collecting chicken eggs, cleaning tools, and more than anything else, weeding.
Farming requires a lot of care and attention. To tend to the land we have to tend to our bodies. We take time to stretch, practice mindfulness and calm our nervous systems during each shift. We learn social-emotional skills working together and working with plants. We visit other farms in the area and do workshops with professionals who care about sustainability and reconnecting to the earth. Supa Fresh internships help youth develop tools that can help them be successful in any education or career path.
